3/18/13 - A local charter school student has been named as a candidate for the 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholarship Program. Lauren Benstead, a senior at Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy in Brighton, is one of just 3,000 nationwide selected for inclusion and one of only three in Livingston County. The U.S. Presidential Scholarship Program, now in its 49th year, is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Candidates are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities. Also selected for the program were Matthew Vasher from Pinckney Community High School and Zachary Teela from Hartland High School. (JK)
