8/16/13 - A house fire in downtown Howell claimed the life of a man found inside Thursday night. Firefighters were called out to the house fire in the 500 block of Clinton Street at 10:44pm. Upon arrival, police and fire units found the building heavily involved, with flames coming from the back of the home and smoke coming from the front. Deputy Fire Marshall Les Rodwell tells WHMI they were also informed that it was possible a person was still trapped inside. Crews began their firefighting efforts and gained entry to the home through the front door. They were able to find the man inside and bring him out to be treated by Livingston County EMS paramedics, but he was declared dead at the scene. The fire made its way into the attic of the home, and crews worked well past midnight to completely extinguish it. An aerial assist was requested from the Fowlerville Fire Department, but was canceled before it could contribute to the effort. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. (TD)
