8/16/13 - Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man killed last night in a house fire in downtown Howell but are not yet releasing the victimâs name. Howell Police Chief George Basar tells WHMI they have positively identified the 76-year-old man, but are not releasing his name until next of kin is notified. The victimâs only next of kin is his daughter, who is out of the country in Canada and authorities have not yet been able to make contact with her. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It started at about 10:45 Thursday evening at a home on Clinton Street. Firefighters found the man inside and brought him out where paramedics tried to revive him, but he was eventually declared dead at the scene. (JM)
