9/6/13 - A judge adjourned a hearing so that a witness in the case against a Brighton man charged with assault and unlawful imprisonment can get her own attorney. 46-year-old Daniel Robert Phillips faces one count each of unlawful imprisonment and assault with a deadly weapon, plus two charges of felony firearms. The charges stem from an incident August 15th involving a woman that police say Phillips assaulted at a residence on Kensington Road in Brighton Township. She said he confronted her about money he believed she owed him. Thatâs when she says he threatened her with a gun and tied her to a chair, then later released her. During Thursdayâs hearing, the woman admitted she had been given money for pills, at which point 53rd District Court Judge Geddis stopped the proceedings and then advised the woman that a court-appointed attorney would be appointed to represent her. The hearing was tentatively rescheduled for September 17th. Phillips remains free on an $18,000 cash surety bond, and is ordered to have no contact with the woman, not enter the property and to possess no weapons. (JK)
