12/10/13 - Visitors driving into the City of Howell could be getting an updated welcome next year courtesy of the City Council and the Downtown Development Authority. DDA Board President Eric Conn tells WHMI his organization is working with the city to replace the 'welcome' signs on the roads that serve as the main entrances to Howell, which have deteriorated with time. Renovating the existing signs would cost more than replacing them completely, and the city hopes to get a better deal on the new signs than the city got on the current installments. Each sign is expected to cost $3,000 to replace, with four signs located around the city. Last night, the city council approved going forward to look at designs to have the new signs developed, produced and installed. The designs and more accurate cost estimates should be available in January. The DDA has $5,000 budgeted for this project, with the city expected to pick up the rest of the tab. (TD)
