12/13/13 - A spa in the City of Fenton has been shut down amid an investigation of prostitution and possibly, human trafficking. The Fenton City Police Department began receiving complaints this fall about prostitution at The Lake Spa on Torrey Road, which led to a multi-jurisdictional investigation. Authorities say acts of prostitution being offered to customers were uncovered. The business was shut down after a temporary restraining order was granted at the request of Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton. The court order falls under Michiganâs nuisance abatement law and the building has been padlocked to prevent any further activity. Prosecutor Leyton says they have very real concerns that the situation could involve a human trafficking operation and young girls being brought there for the purpose of prostitution and other exploitation. While a direct connection to human trafficking hasnât been made, further investigation is continuing and theyâll look at every possible angle to ensure that any form of human trafficking be stopped and those responsible be prosecuted.
