1/5/14 - In anticipation of a major winter snow storm, the City of Howell has declared a Snow Emergency that is in effect from 9am Sunday through 6pm Monday. During the emergency all vehicles must be removed from city streets to allow public works personnel to perform winter maintenance in a safe and efficient manner. Vehicles that are not removed will be towed at the ownerâs expense. The Howell Library is also closed as a result of the emergency. In addition, the Village of Pinckney has also declared a Snow Emergency that remains in effect until Monday night. Vehicles must remain off village streets or risk getting towed. Police Chief Jeff Newton says the roads must remain clear for DPW crews that have been out working all weekend trying to remove snow from the roads. The Village of Fowlerville and cities of Brighton and South Lyon have also instituted snow emergencies. In times of snow emergencies, vehicles found parked on streets are subject to towing and impoundment at the ownerâs expense. Additionally, a number of local municipalities have ordinances that require the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks within a certain time period of significant snowfall. (JM/JK)
