1/28/14 - An effort is set to take place Wednesday to count local residents classified as homeless. The Point in Time count impacts the funding and assistance that Livingston County gets to help those in need. The Livingston County Homeless Continuum of Care and various partners are working in coordination to get the most complete count possible of individuals without a permanent or stable housing situation. Anne Rennie, who serves as the community collaborative planner, said residents who fall under that category include more than just those who are staying with a friend or family member on a temporary basis, but also those who are living in their cars because they've had to decide to keep up those payments rather than rent so they can still get to and from work. Those individuals deemed as homeless in the county are being encouraged to contact the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, or OLHSA, Wednesday in order to get counted. Their number is 517-546-8500. Rennie says they decided to use OLHSA as the center point for the count as they also serve as a direct entry to the various services provided by the Livingston County Continuum of Care Committee.
