11/19/12 - The Hamburg Police Department will soon offer a mentoring and training program for young people interested in a career in law enforcement. The department is organizing a Law Enforcement Exploring Post to allow local people aged 14 to 21 to train with and assist Hamburg police officers. It will combine in-the-field experience, classroom lectures, and practical exercises to teach participants the skills and realities of working for a police department. The program will cover topics such as crime scene investigation, self- defense, first aid/CPR, traffic direction and enforcement, and reports. Participants will also get the opportunity to volunteer to accompany police on traffic and patrol operations as well as special events. Meeting times will be determined at a later date but are expected to include one two-hour evening meeting each week. The Exploring Post will be offered free of charge by the Hamburg Police Department. Participants must pass a background check and oral board, maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average, and must apply before their 20th birthday. For more information, follow the link posted below.
