2/22/14 - After years of funding cuts, plummeting property values and increasing costs, The Livingston County Board of Commissioners is calling on state legislators to live up to their promise and adopt Governor Rick Snyderâs budget recommendation to fully fund state revenue sharing. Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution in support of the Governorâs budget recommendation for the fiscal year 2015, which includes full funding of state revenue sharing for counties, bringing them back to the level agreed upon in 2004. The payments were cut significantly during the recession, and the governor later established incentives and best practices that municipalities and counties had to meet or follow to receive the funding. Budget talks at the state level are ongoing and full funding for county revenue sharing must be supported and approved by both the House and Senate in order for Livingston County and others across the state to actually receive it. County Administrator Belinda Peters says if fully restored, the county would see an additional $623,000 added to its general fund. (JK)
