2/23/14 - Over 300 community members strode through the halls of The Hartland Educational Support Service Center Saturday to raise funds for emergency heat assistance. The Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, a community action agency, put on its 24th annual event Walk For Warmth, which raises money to pay utility bills for those in need. Sponsors, volunteers and donors came together to walk laps inside the building to reach their goal of $150,000 to heat homes in Livingston and Oakland County. Irene Onderchanin, Chair of the Board of Directors for OLHSA tells WHMI local residents really make the event special. Walkers ranged from small children, to families, local businesses and even elected officials. Hank Vaupel, Supervisor of the Handy Township Board of Trustees, tells WHMI he believes in the benefits of having municipalities involved in such events. Sponsors were able to reach a platinum, gold, silver or bronze level depending on their donation amount. Onderchanin says âitâs great to have the community support. This is one really remarkable thing about it. It brings people together from literally every walk.â (DK)
