3/12/14 - A jury returned guilty verdicts Tuesday against a Marion Township man charged in a domestic dispute that involved a police stand-off. 32-year-old Justin Michael Cheff was found guilty on four counts of 2nd degree child abuse and four counts of possession of a firearm in commission of a felony. However, jurors returned not guilty verdicts on 13 additional charges including unlawful imprisonment, assault with a dangerous weapon and discharging a weapon in an occupied dwelling. Testimony during the trial indicated Cheff threatened his wife during an incident last May and held her at gunpoint. He then pointed the gun at his step-children and threatened to shoot them. One of the kids later fled and told a neighbor. The countyâs tactical team was called in, leading to a stand-off that ended when the team entered the home and found Cheff passed out, along with two loaded handguns. He faces up to 48 years in prison when he is sentenced April 17th. (JK)
