3/17/14 - A local police officer has gone out of his way to learn how to identify the effects of various illegal drugs. Hamburg Police Officer Adam Fischhaber has successfully completed a training course designed to teach law enforcement officials how to identify impairment in others caused by specific drugs and substances. This Michigan State Police program aims to improve efforts to prosecute offenders, reduce the amount of impaired driving on local roads, and better detect the impact of illegal drugs in the community. Officer Fischhaber conducted two weeks of classroom work in Lansing before going to Maricopa County Jail in Phoenix, Arizona. There, he and his classmates were able to get practical training by performing drug screenings on volunteer inmates being admitted to the jail. Fischhaber is only the second law enforcement official in Livingston County to get this specialized training. The costs associated with the program, including travel expenses, were paid for by a police training grant. (JK)
