4/15/14 - A strong odor that turned out to be a false alarm on Tax Day led to employees and customers being evacuated for a short time from a local post office. The Putnam Township Fire Department was called out late this morning to investigate a possible gas leak at the Pinckney Post Office after an unusual odor was reported both inside and outside of the building. The Pinckney Post Office is located on East M-36 and all of the commotion attracted a lot of attention as there were a number of fire trucks on scene but firefighters could also be seen walking on the roof and around the back of the building. Fire Chief Greg Amburgey tells WHMI they evacuated the building for about half an hour to investigate and after determining that the odor in the air was actually coming from a nearby business where a truck was pumping sludge oil, the building was cleared and re-opened for business.
