4/17/14 - The first two graduates of new training academy for Livingston County 911 Dispatchers have started their life-saving work. Shift leader Joni Stidham at 911 Central Dispatch tells WHMI dispatchers previously were trained outside the county and had to learn the specifics of local dispatch while on the job taking live calls. The in-house training course takes about two weeks to complete. This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and at an awards ceremony for local dispatchers on Monday the first two graduates of the new training academy were honored for their work in joining the team. One of them had her first shift on Friday, while the other began on Monday. The organizers of the academy, including Stidham, were also thanked for the work they did preparing and implementing he new initiative. (TD)
