6/6/14 - A Howell teen has passed away following a serious accident that shut down Latson Road for roughly three hours in Oceola Township. The crash happened around 8pm Friday on Latson Road, south of M-59 when an 18-year-old Howell resident in a Volkswagon pulled out of a gas station in front of a pickup truck. The Livingston County Sheriffâs Department reports that the impact of the crash caused the Volkswagon to roll over and catch on fire. It was extinguished by Howell firefighters, who were able to extricate the unconscious teen and prevent the fire from spreading into the passenger compartment. Sheriff Bob Bezotte tells WHMI the Howell teen was taken by ground ambulance to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup truck, identified as a 23-year-old Fenton resident, was not injured. Bezotte says alcohol doesnât appear to have been a factor and the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff Departmentâs Traffic Safety Bureau. (JM)
