6/9/14 - After stealing money from several churches in Wayne and Oakland counties, a Howell man has been charged with larceny. Jeffrey John Bentley was arraigned last week after a hidden camera showed him taking money out of a donation box at St. Edithâs Catholic Church. Church officials notified Livonia Police and said they thought money was being taken out of donation boxes, so a hidden camera was then put in place which caught Bentley in the act. He is also suspected in several other church robberies in the area. The 55-year-old Bentley is charged with larceny in a building and as a habitual offender, which is a 15 year felony. His criminal record includes previous convictions in Livingston County for larceny and criminal sexual conduct. Bentley is due back in Livonia district court Thursday for a preliminary exam. His bond was posted at $50,000. (JK)
