6/30/14 - Drunk drivers will be red, white and busted this Fourth of July. After receiving a $20,000 grant, six local law enforcement agencies will be putting extra officers out on the road as part of a statewide drunk driving crackdown. Targeted patrols will be ongoing throughout the 4th of July holiday period. The federal funds are administered by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning to local agencies to conduct the stepped up drunk driving patrols during specific time periods. The Pinckney Police Department coordinated the local grant effort and Chief Jeff Newton tells WHMI the advantage is increased police presence. Additional enforcement periods will be scheduled through the end of September as a result of the grant funding. In addition to Pinckney, participating police agencies include Green Oak and Hamburg Townships, as well as the Brighton, Howell and Fowlerville Police Departments.(JK)
