8/21/14 - The ice bucket challenge is heating up across Livingston County with local firefighters helping save lives in a different way. Members of the Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority and their families completed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge this week. There were a total of 46 participants and each donated $5 while the Hartland Deerfield Firefighters Association matched donations for a grand total of $460, including $50 in additional donations. The Ice Bucket Challenge, in which people record themselves pouring ice cold water on their heads, is a fundraising opportunity for the ALS Association. It has since went viral â raising millions of dollars along with unprecedented awareness for the cause. The Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority has since called out the Brighton Area Fire Authority as well as the Green Oak and Hamburg Township Fire Departments to support the ALS cause, who must then nominate three other departments and or agencies to the challenge.
