9/17/14 - New grant opportunities are opening up for the City of Howell following a new income classification. Officials received word that the 2010 census classified the City of Howell as a low-to-moderate income community, which will enable it to apply for additional grants and job creation requirements are no longer valid. The designation is by the State of Michigan based on federal criteria. City Manager Shea Charles tells WHMI there are a lot of grants and programs the City wasnât eligible to apply for before because it didnât have this designation. The City of Howell received notification of the income classification change in August. Charles says it takes the federal government about four years to cycle through all of the data before making the designation. (JM)
