12/22/12 - Fenton Township is receiving 55 tax-foreclosed properties at no cost from the Genesee County Treasurer’s Office. The township must now consider what to do with the properties, most of which are part of existing subdivisions. MLive reports that due to the timing of the acquisition, the township has no restrictions on what it can do with the properties or what it can do with the money generated from their sale. The township currently plans to sell off the properties at a profit with a couple of exceptions. Police say the former Frank’s Tavern building on Eastview Drive has become a site of frequent drug activity, so the township fire department plans to burn it down to provide training for firefighters. A property near Petts Lake that is dominated by wetlands could be sold to the Michigan Nature Association. The other properties are divided among five locations and will likely be sold. (TD)
