2/8/13 - Howell Public Schools will be redistricting portions of its territory to help balance enrollment between Highlander Way Middle School and Parker Middle School this fall. That recommendation came from the Committee to Balance Middle School Enrollment yesterday after a public forum with parents earlier this week. The committee was formed in December to address the imbalance in the student body between the schools, which would have left Highlander Way 23 students over capacity and Parker more than 200 students under capacity this fall. Current students will have the option to be grandfathered into their current middle school. Parents will have until March 1st to take advantage of this option. Last-minute changes resulting from the parent forum this week included a provision allowing the 4th and 5th grade siblings of Highlander Way students to grandfather out of the redistricting. The Hidden Creek subdivision was also added to the redistricted territory as a result of the forum. In total, about 144 students will be sent to Parker rather than Highlander Way this fall.
