2/12/13 - A Warren man who police say attempted to break into a shed at a Hamburg Township home but was thwarted by the homeowner and his son has been sentenced in the case. 42-year-old Gary Kulpa was sentenced to 19 months to 20 years in prison, with credit for 204 days already served. He pleaded guilty to a single count of breaking and entering with intent after an incident on June 26th of last year at a home on Riverside Drive. Kulpa also pleaded guilty to being a 4th time habitual offender. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to recommend to Livingston County Circuit Court Judge David Reader that he be sentenced at the bottom of the guidelines. Hamburg Township Police say the homeownerâs son heard someone walking outside and then the sound of the shed door opening at around midnight. Police say the men went outside to find Kulpa, who fled, but they were able to catch and hold him until officers arrived. (TD)
