10/22/12 - Doctor Louis May was recognized by the Howell Fraternal Order of the Eagles Sunday for a lifetime of service to the community. Doc May has been practicing medicine in the area since returning from serving in Europe during World War Two, and by his own account has delivered over four-thousand babies. Doc May says he still comes across the individuals that he had the honor to first greet into the world. Doc May founded the Howell Melon Festival and has a city park named after him but is also a proponent of natural cures and has developed natural soy products sold at the Howell Farmers' Market. Speaking at Sunday's ceremony was Matt Pollick, a former worker on May's farm. He said that most people don't know that May has employed many young people through the years and taught them the basics of farming. Pollick has his own farm now and says he owes at least some of that success to May. Doc May celebrated his 90th birthday this past June. (DL/JK)
