7/12/13 - A Howell Township-based non-profit that assists military veterans and believes in rescuing one to rescue another had a lot to celebrate about this morning. Stiggyâs Dogs rescues and trains shelter dogs to be psychiatric service dogs free of charge for military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or traumatic brain injury. Last July, it won The Home Depot Foundationâs year-long Facebook voting program called Aprons in Action. Stiggy's Dogs then went on to compete in the finals and won $100,000 for its third place finish. The facility and sanctuary are located off Bowen Road in Howell Township and tours were given prior to a morning check presentation and celebratory lunch. Founder Jennifer Petre tells WHMI the whole experience has been unbelievable and it could never have been accomplished without the community and all of their friends, family and Facebook fans. She says they plan to stretch every dollar as far as possible and help pair up and train as many vets and service dogs as possible. (JM)
