12/4/13 - A local group of women was able to not only make a difference for the community Tuesday night but also reached their overall giving goal. 100 Women Who Care is a unique fundraising model in which women are encouraged to come together, register their favorite charity, then choose one organization to receive $100 donations from everyone. The group held its final meeting of the year at the 2|42 Community Church in Genoa Township, where Work Skills Corporation in Brighton was selected to receive the $10,000 donation. Work Skills Development Manager Julie Smith was "over the moon" to receive the donation, and she told WHMI the funds will go toward renovations that are currently underway at a home Work Skills has purchased on Michigan Avenue for people with traumatic brain injuries. Work Skills was up against Gleaners Community Food Bank and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Livingston County, all of which were selected randomly. The donation puts the local 100 Women organization past its annual giving goal of $40,000 for 2013. (JM)
