1/3/14 - While they do not qualify as âsuper zips,â local zip codes ranked quite well in a recent nation-wide study on income and education. The survey, compiled by the Washington Post from the most recent census data of the entire United States, looks at the median household income and the percentage of adults with college degrees in each zip code, then ranks those zip codes on a scale of 0 to 100. The highest-ranking areas, with scores of 95 or higher, are labeled âsuper zips.â In these zip codes, more than 70% of adults hold college degrees and the median household income is over $120,000 annually. There are 650 of them in the country, with the highest concentration in New England, and 12 are in Michigan. While none of them are in Livingston County, local zip codes did fairly well in the analysis. Brightonâs 48114 zip code got a score of 83, while Milfordâs 48380 code got a score of 87. In Howell, the 48843 code got a score of 65, while 48855 got a score of 63. The nearest âsuper zipsâ can be found in Northville, where the 48168 zip has a score of 96, and in Novi, where the 48374 zip has a score of 98, which ties for the highest ranking in the state. Only one âsuper zipâ in the state is not in Metro Detroit, instead being found near Grand Rapids. A link to the interactive survey map can be found below. (TD)
