1/7/14 - A South Lyon teen will serve some additional jail time following his plea to charges of trying to rob people outside a Wal-Mart store with a pellet gun. 17-year-old Jonathan Dahl pleaded guilty last month to unarmed robbery in exchange for the three counts of armed robbery being dropped. On Monday he was sentenced to a year in the Oakland County Jail with credit for 179 days already served. Police say Dahl approached three people walking into the Lyon Township Wal-Mart the evening of July 8th, 2013. The trio said Dahl produced a handgun and demanded money, which he said was to pay off a drug debt. Dahl claimed the people who were owed the money would shoot up his neighborhood with AK-47âs if he did not deliver. Police say one of the victims convinced Dahl that they would go inside, get cash from the ATM, and then bring it back outside. They say he agreed and waited outside the store while the three people went inside and called police. A short foot chase ensued when the officers arrived, but Dahl was taken into custody. A CO2 pistol was recovered at the scene. In addition to the jail time, Dahl must also serve 5 years of probation and perform a minimum of 100 hours of community service. He will also have to undergo substance abuse counseling and undergo routine drug and alcohol testing while on probation. (JK)
