1/23/14 - A Lansing man has announced his bid against Livingston County’s longtime voice in Congress. Ken Darga is seeking the Democratic nomination to run against Howell Republican and U.S. Representative Mike Rogers for the 8th Congressional District. Darga recently retired as Michigan’s state demographer and spent more than 20 years working in the Department of Management and Budget. He’s a self-described Moderate Democrat and told WHMI he plans to primarily focus on economic policy and bringing back a strong manufacturing industry but he’s also very concerned about the younger generations. Darga says his candidacy addresses concerns of both Democrats and Republicans. Darga says he brings a lot of traditional Democratic values such as supporting the rights of workers and consumers, and he places high priority on fighting poverty and unemployment. Darga says he also shares in some things that Republicans want to accomplish and has a plan to improve the business and investment climates but feels he could better accomplish a lot of the GOP objectives, compared to how they’ve been handled during the last few sessions of Congress. Darga grew up in Oakland County and has lived in Lansing for 35 years. (JM)
