1/30/14 - The Genoa Township Board is pledging financial support toward a grant application that would aid in developing a property to serve as a new recreational resource for Livingston County. The Livingston County Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee has begun the process of planning and designing the recreational development of Fillmore County Park. Itâs currently an undeveloped 198-acre property located at Euler and McClements Roads in Genoa Township. Letters were also sent out seeking financial support from local municipalities to be used as matching funds toward a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant this year. The Genoa Township Board has had a continued focus on recreational planning and increasing opportunities for residents as well as the public at large. It met last week and approved contributing financially up to $3,000 toward the grant application, based on its regional benefit and attractions that would serve the entire county. The financial commitment from Genoa Township was contingent upon the grant being successful. Applications are due in April and a firm has been retained by the County to provide a conceptual design for the first phase of the project, which will assist in the preparation of the grant application. Among the things being considered are sports fields and passive recreation uses such as trails, picnic areas and playgrounds. (JM)
