1/31/14 - Handy Township Supervisor Hank Vaupel has been recognized for his long career in providing veterinary care to horses. For nearly 38 years, Vaupel has owned and bred race horses while operating his own veterinary clinic in Fowlerville. Over the years, his clinic trained more than 100 veterinary students from Michigan State University, where he is an adjunct professor of veterinary medicine. For his decades of work in equine medicine and training those who practice it, Vaupel has been chosen to receive the Rooker Award for Excellence in Equine Practice from MSU. He describes the honor as a sort of âlifetime achievementâ award for those who work to advance equine medicine and those who are training to practice it. He says he is honored and humbled to receive the award. (TD)
