1/31/14 - A man said to embody the brotherhood of the fire service by working to make his fire station a family has been named Howell’s 2013 Firefighter of the Year. The Howell Area Fire Department held its annual award ceremony at the Livingston County Public Safety Complex in Howell Township this week. Lieutenant/Chaplain Michael Petrosky was named the 2013 Firefighter of the Year for his positive attitude and position to lead, mentor, and train other firefighters. He’s been a valued member of the Department's Honor Guard since its inception and works to ensure the safety of the firefighters while serving the lord as the department's Chaplain. Life Saving and Chain of Survival awards were handed out while various personnel received awards recognizing their years of service; Assistant Chief Jeff Borchardt with 20 years; Assistant Chief Brian Anderson with 25 years; Deputy Fire Chief Ron Hicks with 30 Years of Service and Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal Les Rodwell with 35 years of service. An annual video was shown during the presentation that included funny and serious scenes along with pictures and videos of incidents over the past year. The video concluded with a tribute of active Firefighter Michael Hough who passed away suddenly on September 14th of last year.
