2/3/14 - A number of local designers are getting ready to express themselves as part of the 6th annual Runway Repurposed fashion competition later this month. The fundraiser is hosted by the Livingston Arts Council and benefits the Howell Opera House. The "eco-couture" program allows local designers to combine the art of fashion design with the use of clothing and fabric donated by local businesses to create their original outfits. Maddie May Kroll (pictured) will be one of the featured judges at this yearâs competition. Sheâs a past winner and currently a first year student at the Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. She tells WHMI her experiences in past competitions should serve her well in the judging arena. "It's nice having that background because you know how much work went into these pieces and you can judge and see how much time people spent on them. I'm not overly critical...There's no right or wrong in design. It's all about what you were feeling at that time." The Runway Repurposed fashion show and silent auction will take place on Sunday, February 16th at Cleary Universityâs Johnson Center. Advance online registration is $12 per person through the link below or $15 at the door. Picture courtesy of Richard Lim Photography. (JK)
