3/18/14 - Michigan has endured one of the coldest winters on record, but local authorities are warning residents that warmer temperatures are already beginning to deteriorate the ice in local lakes. The Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority has already responded to several ice related incidents, and has put out a notice to residents that ice on local lakes cannot be trusted. The notice included tips from the Livingston County Dive Rescue Team for those who are determined to go out on the ice. They instruct residents to stay within shouting distance of shore, always test the thickness of ice yourself, beware of cracks or depressions, always wear a life jacket on the ice, and never drive a vehicle out onto the lake. The full list of instructions can be found on the Hartland Deerfield Fire Authorityâs Facebook page. (TD)
