3/18/14 - Two area businesses are offering a unique way next month to help those in need in the community. A photography studio, Shöne Foto in Howell and a tattoo parlor, The Shop in Fowlerville, have teamed up to offer assistance to The Torch, a newly established Livingston County non-profit that plans to use a mobile food truck to deliver meals to those that need assistance. On April 16th, both businesses will offer donations for those that come in and get their picture taken or inked. The Shop will donate 100% of its profits that day, while Shöne Foto will offer free mini temporary tattoo-themed photography sessions for children for a $20 donation to The Torch. Begun in 2012 as a food outreach program, The Torch came upon the idea for a mobile food truck after receiving a $20,000 donation from an anonymous donor. Using that money, they were able to find a suitable truck and spent a good part of the last year customizing the interior to provide hot food for free for families who have fallen on hard times. Rhonda Callanan is one of the groupâs founders and says they plan to have the food truck at the event next month with free food available for people who stop by. Those who wish to set up a donation tattoo at The Shop can do so through their Facebook page, the link for which is below, or by calling Darl Papple at 517-223-7998. To set up a child photography session, email Marhöfer at shonefoto@gmail.com or call 517-375-4351. (JK)
