3/24/14 - The Area Agency on Aging 1-B wants to help local seniors with low incomes determine whether they are eligible for assistance paying for their prescription medications. The organization will hold a meeting on Friday where senior citizens can find out if they qualify for the Low-Income Subsidy, or LIS, through Medicare Part D. The subsidy provides assistance paying for prescriptions for seniors with limited assets and low incomes. The assistance day will be held from 10am to 3pm at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Brighton Township. Seniors who register and attend will get access to trained counselors who can help them determine their eligibility for the subsidy, answer their questions, and help them enroll. This is the second such meeting to be held in Livingston County this month, with the last one held on March 17th at the Livingston Educational Service Agency. For information on the subsidy program, or to register for the meeting, call 1-800-803-7174. (TD)
