3/26/14 - Although Livingston County is among the top five in County Health Rankings across Michigan, local health officials say there is still room for improvement. The 2014 County Health Rankings were released today through collaboration between The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute to help show how health is influenced by everyday surroundings. Livingston County ranked 4th in health outcomes and 5th in health factors in Michigan. The Livingston County Department of Public Health maintains that despite being an educated, affluent and employed county with access to care, there are areas where the countyâs health can improve in terms of both outcomes and factors. Health Officer Dianne McCormick says 27% of Livingston County adults are obese, which is a common, serious, and costly health issue. Additionally, 23% of Livingston County residents drink alcohol excessively compared to just 18% of adults in Michigan. The number of sexually transmitted infections is also trending up.
