5/2/14 - A sentence has been handed down for the Deerfield Township man charged with various counts of assault for an incident involving his ex-girlfriend. 26-year-old Alan Dean March Jr. pleaded guilty to one count of assault by strangulation and one count of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer. This week, he was sentenced to prison for 28 months to 15 years, with credit for 167 days already served. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors agreed to drop an aggravated assault charge and a count of interfering with electronic communications. The charges stem from an incident in May of 2013 when police say March told his former girlfriend he planned to attack another man she liked if she did not come to his home on Cohoctah Road. The woman told authorities she went to the home in an effort to calm March, but was instead attacked and choked by him. The victim said March also took her cell phone so she could not call authorities, but she was eventually able to escape and call 911. When police arrived March had fled the area, but he was taken into custody two days later. (TD)
