5/4/14 - A Hampton Inn first proposed for Brighton in 2004 will finally become a reality – a decade after the site plan was originally approved. The Brighton City Council Thursday night approved an amended site plan for the hotel, after approval was given on April 21 by the City Planning Commission. In 2004, a Hampton Inn was approved for the property across from what is now the Homewood Suites by Hilton. But the recession caused the applicant to indefinitely postpone plans, and the land remained vacant. Now, with the economy slowly coming back and a $10 million renovation of the Mount Brighton Ski Area by Vail Resorts Inc., the time is apparently ripe for more lodging in Brighton. Planned is a 3-story concrete block and brick building at 8068 Challis Road, at the corner of Library Drive. The 58,000-square-foot hotel will have 79 rooms, and according to City Manager Dana Foster, construction is expected to start sometime this summer. (TT)
