5/4/14 - The 11th annual Livingston County Community Alliance Run Against Drugs will be held in Howell on Saturday. The 5k event is a major source of revenue for the Community Alliance, typically raising $2,000-$5,000 each year. Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator Kaitlin Fink tells WHMI that money goes right back into the community in the form of mini-grants to sponsor local youth-centered prevention activities. These include Friday night events to provide an alternative to drug abuse as well as local awareness walks. One of the more recent projects sponsored by the Run Against Drugs brings together 8th and 9th graders to help the younger students have a smoother transition into high school, which Fink says is a prime time for them to begin experimenting with substance abuse. The Run Against Drugs will be held on May 10th at the First United Methodist Church on Bower Street in Howell, with registration beginning at 9am and the run scheduled to begin at 10:00. A kidsâ run will begin at 11:00. In honor of motherâs day, mother-child teams will have $5 knocked off of the $25 per person registration fee, and every mother who participates will get a flower.
