5/30/14 - Local veterans were the beneficiaries of a donation drive over the Memorial Day weekend. The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 125 held their semi-annual Forget-Me Not drive over the Memorial Day weekend at both the Howell and Fowlerville Wal-Mart locations where they raised over $4,500. The Forget-Me-Not is a small, artificial flower that says, âPlease donât forget meâ to commemorate men and women, past and present, who have sacrificed their bodies and spirit on defense of the nation. Senior Post Commander Bryan Bradford says the fundraiser is especially important at a time in which the number of comrades in arms who have suffered injury and disability in answering the call of duty is rising and not falling as a result of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Proceeds from donations for the Forget-Me-Nots go to providing recreational, family assistance and other morale and supplemental items for the benefit of disabled veterans. Donations can be sent to DAV 3265 W. Grand River Howell, MI 48855. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month at 7pm at the at the Legion Post on the corner of M59 and Grand River in Howell, or you can call (517) 518-4193 for more information. (JK)
