5/30/14 - Residents in select areas of Livingston County might get a visit from some firemen this Sunday as part of a massive smoke alarm installation program. The Brighton Area Fire Authority recently received about $84,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to install thousands of smoke alarms in the City of Brighton as well as Genoa and Brighton Townships. The project will take place from about 11:00am to about 5:30pm this Sunday, and Fire Chief Mike OâBrian says he hopes his department will install 3,000 smoke alarms in this time. He says he has spoken with fire departments around the country, and the most smoke detectors he has ever heard of being installed in a six-hour period was only 2,500. OâBrian tells WHMI the process should be quick, easy, and free for residents. OâBrian says special smoke alarms for the hearing impaired are also available, which shake the mattresses of residents to wake them in case of a fire. (JK)
