6/9/14 - The memory of a Howell teen that passed away nine years ago has been honored with an award to two local students. Mackenzie Watts was just 15 when she passed away while swimming at a Howell Varsity swim practice in November of 2005. She was also a member of the Howell Sea Serpents swim team and served as a junior coach for the team. Following her death, the teamâs coaches created the Mackenzie Watts Award in her memory. Itâs given to swimmers who have demonstrated hard work, sportsmanship, and dedication to the sport of swimming. This yearâs winners are 6th graders Madison Zerona and Hunter Gubeno. Mackenzieâs parents, George and Laurie Watts, donated the plaque that hangs in the Aquatic Center lobby at Howell High School that lists the winners of the award from every year. (JK)
