7/16/14 - In the tradition of Hemmingway, Poe, and Fitzgerald, the Howell Carnegie Library held a literary pub crawl through downtown Howell last night. Groups of up to sixty patrons met at bars and restaurants around the city to enjoy activities, discussions, and specialty drinks all centered around literature. The library held a historic pub crawl last year with much success, and officials decided to hold the literary pub crawl this year as a way to partner with local businesses. Participants were encouraged to dress up as literary characters, authors, or even librarians for the crawl. Many did show up in costumes, ranging from period dresses to zombie makeup. Stops along the pub crawl included the Main Street Winery, Diamonds Steak, Clearyâs Pub, and the Howell Opera House. Each stop had a literary activity for patrons, including poetry writing, literary trivia, and a tour of the historic Opera House. (TD)
