8/21/14 - Dozens of local families, nonprofits, and government facilities got a helping hand from hundreds of volunteers at the United Wayâs 13th annual Day of Caring yesterday. Every year, individuals as well as groups of volunteers from local businesses, churches, schools, and organizations gather for a one-day service blitz across Livingston County. They tackle projects ranging from building maintenance and installing fences to painting, cleaning, and spending time with seniors. While many of the larger projects are done for nonprofit organizations or government facilities like schools, others are done for individual families. In addition to the service projects, a health fair with free screenings was offered by St. Joseph Mercy Health System. A picnic for volunteers was also set up at the Howell City Park. (TD)
