2/5/13 - Detroit rock legend Mitch Ryder and his wife suffered minor injuries in a head-on crash over the weekend as they headed to their South Lyon home from a concert. The Oakland County Sheriffâs Office said the coupleâs car was hit by a suspected drunken driver on Friday night on Kent Lake Road, north of Silver Lake Road. The 67-year-old Ryder, who headlined last yearâs Howell Melonfest (pictured), was returning home from a concert in Auburn Hills when a pickup truck headed in the opposite direction on Kent Lake Road suddenly swerved across the center lane into their lane just around midnight. Ryder told the Detroit News that he jerked his vehicle toward the shoulder and headed for the ditch. However, the pickup truck driver, identified as a 21-year-old South Lyon man, slammed into the front driver side of Ryderâs sedan, causing the car's air bags to deploy. Ryder's wife, Megan, suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized until Sunday night for observation. A friend who was a passenger in the back wasn't injured. The pickup driver, who failed a field sobriety test, told officers he looked down to adjust his radio dial when he crossed into the other lane. Despite the accident, Ryder took the stage at a friend's birthday party Saturday. (JK)
