2/5/12 - A former county commissioner is back on the board after being appointed to the open District 5 seat last night. The County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to appoint attorney Don Parker to the seat after interviewing candidates for the spot. The seat was vacated by Jay Drick, who left the commission and closed his law office to become the new magistrate for the Livingston County courts. Parker served on the board for more than 8 years before leaving to pursue a personal project. He says he is eager to return to the board and that his personal, professional, and legal experience will be of value to the county. He tells WHMI that heâs not sure what kind of challenges he will have to tackle while on the board this time around, be he expects that the economy is still the biggest issue facing the commission. Parker will serve on the board until a special election to fill the District 5 seat can be held in May. The deadline to register as a candidate is February 12th. Parker has stated that he intends to run for the seat. (TD)
