2/7/13 - The new Michigan State Police Brighton Post was formally dedicated during a well-attended ceremony and ribbon cutting this morning. Construction of the new building began last May and was recently completed in December. The new post is on Buno Road, next to the Brighton Township hall and was a joint public-private partnership that officials say required some out-of-the-box thinking. Post Commander/1st Lieutenant Joel Allen thanked everyone involved for making the project both a reality and success. Years of planning went into the new facility, which officials say will ensure a strong, continued presence in both Livingston and Washtenaw Counties. The Brighton and Ypsilanti Posts merged in October of 2011 as part of consolidation efforts across the region. It was noted that the ability to investigate crimes is important so digital fingerprinting capabilities, two holding cells and state-of-the-art surveillance and communications systems will allow everyone to perform duties more effectively. Local dignitaries and officials rounded out the ceremony and guided tours of the new facility were provided to attendees following the ribbon cutting. (JM)
