2/9/13 - The Pinckney State Recreation Area will be the site of a social event this month designed to bring together local singles over a cup of coffee. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring several Mitten Mixers around Valentines Day at state parks and recreation areas. Assistant Recreation Programmer Tracy Ball tells WHMI that the Mitten Mixer coffee tasting was organized to coincide with the holiday. The park is inviting singles to bring their own ceramic mugs to sample coffee blends. Ball says she got the idea for a coffee tasting and heard a report that said more than 10,000 marriages each year are traceable to romances that begin over coffee or tea. The mixer will take place outdoors beneath an awning with a bonfire, so participants are asked to dress for the weather. A hike along the Potawatomi Trail will also take place. Ball says if the event is a success it could take place twice yearly or even monthly. (TD)
