2/9/13 - Some area kayakers got quite the surprise when they discovered a dead boa constrictor while traveling down the Shiawassee River in Linden a few weeks ago. Fenton resident Iggy Sly was kayaking with friends down the Shiawassee River near Hogan Road when they noticed a snake between 5 and 6 feet long floating belly up, wrapped around a log. Sly told The Flint Journal the find was kinda creepy but expects that it was probably somebody's pet because the snake is non-native and could never survive a Michigan winter. He posted photos of the snake on the Keepers of the Shiawassee River's Facebook page. The snake is believed to be a red tail boa constrictor, a large, heavy-bodied species found in North, Central, and South America, as well as some islands in the Caribbean. Photo Credit Iggy Sly. (JM)
